創(chuàng)作背景

該詩歌的作者普拉西德·卡波（Placide Cappeau）（1880-1887）是個葡萄酒商，同時也是個詩人。他在一位教區(qū)神父的請求下寫了這首詩歌。

一神論牧師約翰·沙利文·德懷特，《德懷特音樂報》的創(chuàng)立者，在1955年將其翻譯為英文。
